Not just for Christmas

If you would have said to me 4 years ago that my business would have been invited to House of Lords, met MP’s and been asked for advice by other small businesses, I’d have presumed you’d been at the gin. But it’s true.

It’s crazy to think that, just 6 years ago, my business didn’t exist AT ALL, and now here I am fulfilling my dreams and most importantly been able to promote other small businesses.  I am having the best time.

The Small Business Saturday campaign is exceptionally worthwhile, but as with most awards, also hard work.  You apply via an online form and a video, but also need to think about what you would offer on your “day”.  It’s a lot to take in – and don’t forget the day job continues.

Remember that applying for awards should be part of a longer strategy supporting your business.  Why do you want to take part? What do you want them to know? Why is that important? And, what makes you different (your USP)?

The right awards are great opportunities to shine a light on your fantastic business, your team and your clients.  We can’t win them all, so taking part is just as important.  Get the help you need by reaching out to other specialists, and invest in the local economy.  Ask other business owners what awards they apply for, and how they have contributed towards business performance.

And don’t forget, awards nights are glossy glamorous affairs, but we all struggle with elements of our business sometimes.  We can’t do everything – we need our tribe, who will be eye wateringly honest when needed.  Then we dust ourselves off, get up and try again.    That unique

determination gets us through the challenging times and networking helps us to find our tribe. So, go out there, try different groups and find the one/s that work for you.  Help them and they will support you too.

And, I know from experience that writing about yourself is challenging.  So, ask someone else to help you submit that award application.  Or call on us.  We can always help.

And in the meantime, don’t wait, register your business on the Small Business Finder now –  www.smallbusinesssaturdayuk.com

Merry Christmas!
