I have been reading about motivation and therefore questioning my own. Am I motivated away from, or towards? Does it change with the different jobs that I do? Does it depend on who I am with or whether I am on my own?
Motivation is what causes us to act….there are influential forces rooted in biology, cognition, emotions and more…it’s a fascinating subject in itself, and so intertwined in everything we do…
But one thing I know to be true. I have everything I need to do the job at hand (I use the word “job” here very loosely). I am resourceful, I need only to locate and tap into the sources of information I have available. We often find learning to be uncomfortable – for me, I know this means I am experiencing something new – and it occurs to me that I do enjoy that feeling. I have stepped out of my comfort zone. That’s what motivates me. And then I reflect. Because that’s when the learning becomes conscious and I can apply what is needed, to change or repeat as necessary.
My main tip? Know yourself. Know what works, what doesn’t and apply it. Simples.
