After the success of the Derby and Notts Swap Shop, which have welcomed more than 400 small businesses, freelancers and charities to trade free services during our first five months, we are pleased to welcome Leicester and Leicestershire to the swapping family, launched on 23 September 2020.
Based on the Multi-Coloured Swap Shop children’s TV programme broadcast between 1976 and 1982 – in which children would exchange toys and collectors’ items – the Derby Swap Shop helped its members to survive and continue developing during Covid-19 lockdown.
Backed by East Midlands Chamber of Commerce, the swapping revolution has hit the region, offering tradeable services including YouTube video editing, SEO optimisation guidance, video and photography services, paid social media advertising and website development support.
Rachel Hayward, managing director of bid-writing consultancy Ask the Chameleon and one of the Derby Swap Shop founders, said: “We always had plans to include Leicester, especially as this area has sustained a far longer lockdown. We knew from our amazing experience in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire how much we could help small businesses and charities based there. With our small business champions – Nicola Moss, Sonia Viner and Jessica Southworth – leading the charge with their exceptional local knowledge and contacts, we know we will hit the ground swapping!”
