To infinity and beyond!

Where has the time gone?  How can we already be in June?

But <drum roll>….this means that #SmallBiz100 2019 competition is open..

I cannot quite believe that 12 months have flown since I was thinking about applying for this truly business-changing award. And I can categorically say with absolute certainty that it has transformed my business.  Being part of a national campaign, meeting like-minded and inspirational business-people across the UK, attending some jaw dropping events, which culminated in an invitation to Buckingham Palace Garden Party. It has been awesome, truly the marketing campaign that I wouldn’t be able to afford.

An amazing year.

For those of you who don’t know, Small Business Saturday UK is a grassroots, non-commercial campaign, highlighting small business success and encourages consumers to support small businesses in their communities. The day itself will be 7th December 2019 (first Saturday in December each year) and winning #SmallBiz100 means you are part of the campaign leading up to this day.  For 100 days leading up to Small Business Saturday, 100 businesses each have a day of their own to promote themselves and courage people to shop locally.

Want in?

Then apply! Please do not let anything hold you back.  It’s a simple process of a few hundred words about yourself, your business and a video.

You have until 30 June 2019 to get this done, and your video does not need to be Oscar worthy.

Here are some of my top tips to help get you started..

  • Have a conversation – talk to your friend/self/partner – tell them about your business in easy to understand language, what is unique about you, what has been your journey…
  • Write this down – or ask someone to help you – and refine this to meet the character count – use a Word document to help you draft so you can move text around
  • Your video – again, this can be you talking to your phone, or you can get some professional help…it’s up to you. Most importantly, ensure you can be seen and heard and that you are not distracted.  I would advise having a couple of practices, and I personally would be conversational, less script and more you.  Other top tips can be found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-l1h1Sx3esQ
