Feed your knowledge

On my 2016 list was “to read widely”. So I have. Mainly books about bid writing, in search of the ‘magic’ formula and improving my writing for the winning bid application. And this is what I have found.

There are many sources of information out there, online forums, training courses, books etc. Some are easier to read than others. Some training courses are very expensive! But the books have been useful, as they have enabled me to take a step back and reflect on the principles of bid writing and what is needed. This can be lost in the short timescales that bid writers often work.

It can be said that there is an art to this work; being able to write clearly and concisely, understanding what the question is and ensuring you are matching the information correctly is all part of it. But there is so much more. Relationship building, efficient opportunity searching, building information banks for speedier data collection, and being prepared, all add to the mix. Every source of information, be it book, forum or training course, has increased and improved my knowledge. And like any muscle, it needs regular feeding and stretching.
